This is the name given in Appendix C of Rolfsen's Knots and Links, which lists all links up to 9 crossings (hence we only include values for links of 9 crossings or fewer). The notation is of the form abc, where a is the crossing number, b is the number of components, and c is an archive number assigned to each ( a , b ) pair. For example, the borromean rings L6a4 has Rolfsen name (63)2, so is the second 3-component link of 6 crossings in the classical naming system.
